Why LOFT and GIT?

Why LOFT and GIT?

Git , GitHub and Bitbucket are designed for developers.  They work well for developing software but fall far short when working with production data and digital files.

It all comes down to the user experience.  LOFT is focused on presenting the user with assets in terminology that they can understand and relate to.  Git, by itself, presents users with deeply nested folder structures with little context for such basic things like searching.

LOFT breaks up the project into assets.  Assets can be worked on, committed, versioned, and searched on, while sitting on a well understood Git repository.

What about Perforce?

LOFT interface “abstracts” the underlying repository and presents to the user a friendly, understandable interface.  Although LOFT (and LOFTHub) work by default with Git, LOFT is also able to interact with Perforce repositories seamlessly allowing for a unified experience when dealing with hybrid mixed Perforce/Git repositories.

For example, Artists can work on Source Assets using Git repositories and then publish the game ready assets to the Perforce Game repository, all with the same interface.
